These 2018/19 harvest green (un-roasted) coffee beans come from several farms in the Caranavi region of Bolivia. For the past 16 years we have been buying cupped-by the bag coffee at guaranteed minimum prices, based on quality, as part of a multi-year contract with several farmers, many times buying all of their production. We are very happy with our long term relationship with them and we have already seen significant improvements in the quality of their coffee and the lives of the farmers. We are proud to be the main source and inspiration for both improvements. These coffee beans are 100% Specialty Arabica (Tipica 70%, Caturra 10%, Catuai 20%), certified organic and shade-grown in the higher altitudes of many communities such as Calama, Taipiplaya, Montana Verde, Circuata, Llusta, & Alto Sajama in the Caranavi Province. These coffee beans were de-pulped and washed using pure Andes mountain-spring water, sun-dried on wooden table tops and hand selected by "Palliris" (Aymara Indian women food graders).
Because of their flavor and aroma (see cupping notes below) we prefer a moderately dark (#45 Agtron/SCCA) roast for these coffee beans. However, other roasters prefer it darker-roasted. Some roasters use it as a single-origin, others use it as a mandatory component of their special "secret" blend. Try all combinations and you decide!
Retail sales (out of Salisbury) are certified by Baystate Organic Certifiers. Wholesale orders (132 lbs. and more) are certified by Ceres, GmbH.
