These green (un-roasted) coffee beans come from several farms in the Caranavi region of Bolivia. For the past 14 years we have been buying cupped-by-the-bag coffee at guaranteed minimum prices, based on quality, as part of a multi-year contract with several farmers, many times buying all of their production. We are very happy with our long term relationship with them and we have already seen significant improvements in the quality of their coffee and the lives of the farmers. We are proud to be the main source and inspiration for both improvements.
Unfortunately this coffee, though sweet and highly drinkable, didn't make the Specialty grade (80+ cupping score), as it scored "only" 79.5 points. But rather than returning the coffee to the farmers, and asking for our deposits back, we decided to import it an offer it at a lower price to our consumers. Unless you are an experienced cupper you would not be able to tell the difference. So enjoy classical Bolivian taste at a lower price!
These coffee beans are 100% Arabica (Tipica 70%, Caturra 10%, Catuai 20%), certified organic and Fair Trade and shade-grown in the lower altitudes of many communities such as Calama, Taipiplaya, Montana Verde, Circuata, Llusta, & Alto Sajama in the Caranavi Province. These coffee beans were de-pulped and washed using pure Andes mountain-spring water, sun-dried on wooden table tops and hand selected by "Palliris" (Aymara Indian women food graders).
Retail sales (out of Salisbury) are certified by Baystate Organic Certifiers. Wholesale orders (132 lbs. and more) are certified by Ceres, GmbH.
