New crop, arrived April 2017. Bagged at origin in 60-kilo GrainPro bags.
These green (un-roasted) coffee beans come from several farms in the Caranavi region of Bolivia. For the past 13 years we have been buying cupped-by the bag coffee at guaranteed minimum prices, based on quality, as part of a multi-year contract with several farmers, many times buying all of their production. We are very happy with our long term relationship with them and we have already seen significant improvements in the quality of their coffee and the lives of the farmers. We are proud to be the main source and inspiration for both improvements. These coffee beans are 100% Arabica (Tipica 70%, Caturra 10%, Catuai 20%), certified organic and Fair Trade and shade-grown in the lower altitudes of many communities such as Calama, Taipiplaya, Montana Verde, Circuata, Llusta, & Alto Sajama in the Caranavi Province. These coffee beans were de-pulped and washed using pure Andes mountain-spring water, sun-dried on wooden table tops and hand selected by "Palliris" (Aymara Indian women food graders).
Because of their flavor and aroma (see cupping notes below) we prefer a moderately dark (#45 Agtron/SCCA) roast for these coffee beans. However, other roasters prefer it darker-roasted. Some roasters use it as a single-origin, others use it as a mandatory component of their special "secret" blend. Try all combinations and you decide!
When selecting coffee we cup randomly by the bag. These coffee beans represent the coffees, that although sweet and highly drinkable, did not make the cut for Specialty grade.
Retail sales (out of Salisbury) are certified by Baystate Organic Certifiers. Wholesale orders (66 lbs. and more) are certified by Ceres, GmbH. There is a $0.10/lb. charge for wholesale order organic certificate.
This coffee is available at Continental Terminals in Carteret, NJ, The Annex, San Leandro, CA and Salisbury, MA.
